Fall 2020 started dynamically with a set of lectures, chaired conference sessions and presentations. It began with LEX2020 Summer School and ICEGOV 2020. Here’s what I did, so far!
LEX2020 Summer School
On 12 September 2020, I was honored to give an online lecture at the prestigious LEX Summer School of the University of Bologna. The specific session was about LegalXML for “Law as Code”. I presented my line of thoughts and research around the link between complex organizations and legal informatics concepts. The lecture was titled The Akoma Ntoso shock: lessons learned from the introduction of legal informatics in the Hellenic Parliament. The slides from the lecture can be accessed at Slideshare.
ICEGOV 2020
On 23 September 2020, I was glad to chair a top-notch invited session on Standards in Legal Informatics and their Practical Implementation at the ICEGOV 2020 virtual conference. among a great group of scholars and practitioners, i.e. Monica Palmirani (University of Bologna), Claudio Fabiani (European Parliament), Grant Vergottini (Xcential), Georgios Yannopoulos (University of Athens) and Günther Schefbeck (Austrian Parliament), we discussed about the evolution of legal document standards, their practical implementation and the lessons learned.
On the following day, during the paper session on Legal Informatics, I presented a research paper on Application of Enterprise Integration Patterns for the Digital Transformation of Parliamentary Control. This is innovative and ground-breaking research that tackles the interoperability aspect of data sources and systems. Integration of the open source LEOS editor with parliamentary control data from the Hellenic Parliament is used as a proof-of-concept. The joint paper with Sotiris Leventis (Hypernetica) and Vassileios-Marios Anastassiou (Hellenic OCR Team) is to appear at the conference proceedings. The slides can be accessed at Slideshare.
