As a former Resident Twinning Advisor, I was honoured to represent the Hellenic Parliament at the INTER PARES inaugural conference, which took place at the European Parliament from 11 to 12 July 2019. The conference on this new EU global project to strengthen the capacity of parliaments was jointly organised by DG DEVCO and International IDEA.
The INTER PARES Parliaments in Partnership Programme offers a peer-to-peer framework for national parliaments to cooperate -rather than to compete as in Twinning projects- towards strengthening the capacity of parliaments of the world that where either out of the scope of EU member state parliaments or evaded their attention. In this regard, deeper cooperation between parliamentary development practitioners and academics needs to be achieved.
